"Bear"
Tiveo Poco King
2000 Black Stallion

Bear, whose registered name is Tiveo Poco King, is currently the foundation stud of our breeding program. He is registered AQHA and is also a qualified stud for APHA. After Cricket died, Ali wanted to find a good black stud to replace him in the stallion barn. About the same time a good friend of Mike’s asked us to come look at his horses and we obliged. We were getting "horse drunk" as he called it from seeing all the broodmares he had when we pulled into the pasture where Bear was hanging out with several other studs and geldings. We were impressed by how calm and friendly he was. Mike’s friend went on to tell us how his twelve year old daughter rode him in with nothing but a belt around his neck from the pasture with the mares in it, during breeding season, to show him to a prospective breeding client. We have been nothing but impressed with his personality and temperament. He was easy going and friendly the day we met him and has been ever since. It does not matter if he is covering the mares or turned out with geldings and colts or alone in his stall, he is always the first one to walk up to you and will always stick his head in a halter if you have one in your hand. If you don’t, he will just follow you to the gate just in case you needed him to come anyway. Ali named him Bear because he is a big, kind teddy bear in temperament. Last year when we stood him to the public, we pasture bred our mares and hand bred the outside mares. We had 100% conception rates and he was really easy to handle in any situation. Not only did we fall in love with his disposition we were really pleased with his very balanced conformation. He has a big, deep hip and a shoulder, chest and heartgirth to match. He is low-hocked and has a really short cannon bone. He has a nice head and ties in really well. He has a lot of bone and is really sturdy. Ali pulled up a picture of Poco Bueno on line and it is uncanny how much Bear looks like his ancestor. A comment from a visitor to the ranch looking at our colt crop was that he really “stamps” his colts with a nice hip and good bone. It was nice to hear it from an objective source but it is something that we noticed when we bought him and are pleased to see in this nice stud. He was ridden in the feed yard as a young horse and is a pleasure to ride. Mike is training him to be a rope horse but we have not had time to campaign him yet. So far we are letting his progeny speak for his worthiness as a stud and they are a good testament. His previous owner called us this past spring and told us that they were training their oldest colt crop out of Bear and they found that they were the easiest colts to train yet. We have two crops out of him now and we will be training our oldest colts in Spring. We have found so far that all of his babies are smart, calm natured, willing and kind like he is. They have good conformation, lots of bone and color as well and show a lot of athletic ability. We are really excited to have him in our stable and to offer his stud service and wonderful offspring to our clients. Shipped semen is available as well.
