Category Archives: Fillies and Mares

This page lists some of the best fillies you might want to consider for performance or as future broodmares. Both Cricket and Bear made great broodmares. We are very proud of our fillies and know that they will live up to our expectations and your dreams. Don’t be surprised if some of these fillies show up on our broodmare page later. Mike’s grandfather told him that “when you buy a mare you get twice the horse for half the money.” We think he was a pretty smart man.

Slide

I just love this sweet little filly. She is out of Sarrah and Reno. Her momma got super sick with a respiratory issue during her pregnancy and honestly we thought that she had either sloughed or absorbed the foal. Sarrah recovered and about a month before Slide was born her momma’s belly got big quickly.… Continue Reading

Juneau

Juneau

We usually name Waco’s babies after cities so since this filly started dark and then looked like she was covered with snow as she turned gray I thought a northern city like Juneau was a good fit. She is a very shapey filly out of Reno. Of course that means this filly is very versatile… Continue Reading

Tara

Tara

This pretty mare is out of Oso and Bethel and is a full sister to Butterfly who is turning out very nicely. She is a big stout filly and just like her siblings will be quick and athletic and able to do anything that involves speed or cattle. Her conformation is very correct and she… Continue Reading

Elka

Elka

We have had Enga for a little while and were delighted to see her first foal with us. Elka is out of Reno and you can tell because she has all the characteristics that he stamps on his foals. She is cute and shapey with a big backside and a pretty head. She is very… Continue Reading

Mae

Mae

We bought Sugar as a yearling because she was pretty cute and had a big apple backside. Well the apple did not fall far from the tree, Mae is out of Sugar and Reno. She is probably the sleeper in our pasture since she is sorrel but she is so quick footed and bright. I… Continue Reading

Butterfly

Butterfly

Butterfly, whose registered name is AMR Poco Mariposa, is a very feminine filly that is a great arena prospect for roping or barrels. She should be super fast and very friendly. Ali named her because she looks like she is floating around like a butterfly when she moves. She is beautiful. It is really… Continue Reading

Lucy

Lucy

If you like red roans then you ought to like this one. Lucy is out of Gus and Pocahontas. We gelded Gus just because we have Reno who is so much fancier bred and who needs so many gray studs. But that doesn’t mean that Gus didn’t make nice ones and she sure is a… Continue Reading

Ella

Ella

Ella is so feminine and pretty and she is out of Reno and Waco. Of course Reno makes amazing babies but we have to admit that Waco has been such a wonderful producer that we are embarrassed that we thought we ought to sell her a few times in the past. Her babies are cowy… Continue Reading

Joss

Joss

If you like stout mares then you will love Joss. She is out of Reno and Goose. This cross is awesome. Both horses make shapey and cute babies that can work hard all day long and be really good at what they do. Older siblings have been amazing ranch horses, rope horses, show horses basically… Continue Reading

Soggy

Soggy

This sweet mare is out of Reno and Joan. It is a first filly and momma was not a great mother at first so she is a little smaller than I think she should have been. The second filly after her was bigger and momma made good milk the second time around so as a… Continue Reading

Classy

Classy

Classy got her name because she has just been a really classy horse from day one. She has all the right things in all the right places and the best attitude you could ask for. We can’t wait until she gets a chance to prove what she is made of but until then she is… Continue Reading

BB

BB

2012 AQHA black mare, AMR Poco BB King. We have had a few nice babies from this cross but BB is probably the best. Kiowa and Bear only made one dark foal and she is as pretty as they come. She is also very shapey. She ought to make a great cow horse since she… Continue Reading

Ladybug

Ladybug

2011 AQHA gray mare, AMR Ladybug Dash. Ladybug is a really fun mare out of Badger and Perkin Bugs. We plan to use her as a broodmare later but in the meantime Ali wants to see what kind of barrel horse she makes. She is in training now and is doing very well. We sold… Continue Reading

Bunny

Bunny

Bunny is just as cute as a bunny and quick like one too so that is where she got her name. She is out of Bear and Dyna. If she wasn’t a sorrel she would have sold long ago. No matter what her color she is shapey and athletic. I love her flax mane and… Continue Reading

Hope

Hope

Hope is a black filly out of April and Bear. Her older, full sister Dos has made such a great broodmare that we have decided to keep this one for our broodmare band. Stay tuned for updates on her and her offspring here at Morning Ranch. Continue Reading

Queen

Queen

Queen is a beautiful black mare out of Bethel and Bear. I have really wanted to keep her as a potential replacement broodmare for when I decide to retire her momma but since Bethel is still producing so well that should be a long time away. Therefore we are willing to let this mare find… Continue Reading

Foxy

Foxy

Bee was by far one of our favorite broodmares. She stamps her babies with a nice foundation hip and pretty head and tons of athleticism. Crossed on Bear with his strong attributes these babies have been just outstanding. Foxy is the female version of her brother Squid. She is big boned yet still very pretty.… Continue Reading

Surprise

Surprise

Surprise is a really cute black mare out of two true black horses, Bear and Que. She was born late and was indeed a surprise to us for sure. We had put her dam in with a friend’s stud and we were so sure that she was bred that we turned her and all of… Continue Reading

GiGi

GiGi

2013 bay AQHA mare, AMR Poco Poco GiGi. GiGi is the first baby out of our good find Cinco. We purchased her at a friend’s sale for a fifth wedding anniversary gift to ourselves. She has given us reason to celebrate ever since. We love her typey foundation conformation. She is nice and wide with… Continue Reading

Marfa

Marfa

Marfa is a shapey chestnut mare out of Bear and Waco. Folks over looked her due to her color but her conformation and temperament are outstanding. She is almost too friendly and is always the first to greet you in the pasture. She is not only in your pocket, she is in your hand like… Continue Reading

Swallow

Swallow

Swallow is a beautiful black mare out of Hollywood and Sarrah. This mare is a full sister to our stallion Oso. We love this cross and have decided to keep this mare for future use in our broodmare band. Stay tuned for updates on her and her offspring. Continue Reading

Stormi

Stormi

We bought Stormi at the “Come to the Source Sale” in 2014 to breed to Bear. When we lost Bear we thought that we would make a calf horse out of her but just ran out of time to train her with so many in the pipeline. She is good minded, friendly  and easy to… Continue Reading

Cinco

Cinco

Cinco wasn’t really a planned purchase to our program but once we saw her we couldn’t resist. We decided to go to a friend’s registered red Angus sale and came home with the buy of the sale.  She comes from a line of mares that are strong performance producers. This filly fits perfectly into our… Continue Reading
